En op een dag hoorden wij het mooie nieuws dat Bubble boy begin juni zal spelen in Aurich en eind juni in Wenen.

This weekend Bubble Boy plays at a festival in Munster, Germany. The festival is specially focussed on performances for a young audience (9-13y) and has shows from Germany, Belgium and Holland.

Those who still want to see Bubble Boy in Holland can come to Dordrecht or Roosendaal.

Today we heard that Joost Dekker can not make it for the performance in Brussels of Bubble Boy this weekend so that means that I (lucas) will have to replace him. We have only one afternoon of rehearsals and a lot of work. But we are ready for the challenge and I will try my outmost best to portray the one and only docter Johnson. This Sunday in Bronx.

Sunday 24th of january Bubble Boy will play at the Bronx theatre in Brussels. The day after we present the project at the ’see and buy’ day of Stip Productions in Utrecht where the show will be sold for October and November 2010 in Holland and Belgium and maybe Germany. Hear hear.

Bubble Boy Gent

Last Friday and Saturday we played Bubble Boy at the Kopergietery in Gent. The first one was on friday afternoon for schools and I must say, the told us that Belgian kids are much more calm and quiet than Dutch kids but luckily they showed us wrong. All 180 kids were so in the performance that they shouted, laughed, applauded and even sung.

In the evening we had our ‘Flemisch premiere’ with twenty kids and all the rest adults. The show went well and the audience was very moved in different ways. There were wome people that didn’t like our direct here and now style but most of the audience was really into it and even though it is a children s play they were talking a lot about the what and hows of the show. When the audience is busy with the show and not with telling you’ nice job or it was ok’ then you did a nice job.

On Saturday we played for families with kids and you notice immediately that that is the audience for who this piece is made. The children loved it and the parents were moved as well.

We worked for this reprise with one new doctor, Griet Dobbelaere and a new mama, Mieke Versyp and a new boy, Kasper.

We will play Bubble boy again on 24 and 25 of January in Brussels and Utrecht and October-November 2010 we will tour it in Holland and Belgium.

Bubble Boy

Bubble Boy is a performance about a boy, Tom, that has severe combined immunity defienciency (SCID) through which he has to live his whole live in a plastic bubble. After twelve years the scientists have found a cure and they invite you to witness the surgery followed by the salvation of Tom.

The performance is produced by Het Lab from Utrecht for a 10+ audience, written by Alexander Schreuder, cowritten and directed by Lucas De Man, designed by Pascal Leboucq and played by a changing cast with: Joost Dekker, Elsa May Averill, Floor Van Leeuwen, Griet Dobbelaere, Janneke Remmers, Alex, Kasper, Mieke, Suus and others.

The performance was played for the first time april 2009 in Utrecht at the Tweetact festival , then September 2009 in Gent at the Kopergietery, January 2010 in Brussels and Utrecht and on the official tour in Holland and Belgium oktober/november 2010.

BUBBLE BOY in GENT

Afgelopen weekend speelden we in Amsterdam de laatste Bubble Boy van deze korte reeks. Het was in Amsterdam dat het evenwicht tussen humor en ontroering echt goed gevonden werd. Dat was tegelijk ook het fijne van hoe het Lab haar projecten voert. Je maakt een voorstelling en test deze dan in een korte reeks. Tijdens deze reeks speel je eens alleen voor klassen, dan eens vooor een gemengd publiek en dan eens in een andere zaal. Op die manier kun je je voorstelling verder ontwikkelen en hebben de acteurs genoeg situaties tegen gekomen om te weten hoe de voorstelling werkt. Het is voor een regisseur een heel aangename manier van werken omdat je kunt blijven schaven en een voorstelling per definitie nooit af is.

Eind september 2009 hernemen we Bubble Boy voor een korte Vlaamse speelreeks in Gent en het seizoen nadien (na de zomer 2010) gaan we echt op toer. Voor zij die de voorstelling gemist hebben ….
