Nieuwe Held?

‘A hero is a character who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self-sacrifice – that is heroism – for some greater good, originally of martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence.’
[Wikipedia]

My name is Pam and I’m doing an internship at Nieuwe Helden.
So am I a Nieuwe Held? A New Hero?
Well, I’m working on it. And I will display courage and the will for self-sacrifice to become one. Or is it, when I do, I already have become one?
For me, after three weeks in company with heroes, it slowly starts to feel like I actually am a Nieuwe Held.

At the moment I’m working on 2 projects: ‘Tot slot/That’s it’ and a performance with Niels that still hasn’t got a name.

In ‘Tot slot/That’s it’ (totslot.stichintgnieuwehelden.nl) I’m designing an installation that will give you the experience of the philosophy and intensity of the project with all the movies. At the moment I’m busy with brainstorming, thinking, drawing, drinking coffee and talk with Lucas, testing ideas, getting more ideas, killing my darlings, drawing more, reading, drinking tea and discuss with Lucas, drinking diet coke and brainstorm with Lucas, searching for images, getting more inspiration, trying to sleep and still thinking about it, talking with people about it, making mistakes, solving the problems…
Yeah, being a hero is not that easy.

I want to end with a proverb:

A hero is one who knows how to hang on one minute longer.
